Learn More About the IU Med School Coming to Evansville

I recently interviewed Cathy Zimmermann, who will be the director of Development and Public Relations at the upcoming IU medical school that will be located here in Evansville.

I wanted to share a recent interview I conducted with Cathy Zimmermann, who is the Development and Public Relations Director for the upcoming IU medical school here in Evansville. Where will the school be located? “We’re going to be located in the heart of downtown Evansville on Walnut Street. We’re going to have a four-story building; there’s already beams going up in the air. There’s anticipated to be about 600 students whenever we open in the summer of 2018. The partners in the group are going to include the University of Evansville, University of Southern Indiana, Indiana University School of Medicine, and Indiana University School of Dentistry. So we’re very excited about that collaborative effort that’s going to be there.”

We’re very excited about that collaborative effort that’s going to be there.

Where's the funding coming from to build the school? “The regional legislators have been excellent in lobbying together to help the general assembly see what an important bioscience economic driver this is going to be for southwestern Indiana. So, we received significant funding from the state in 2015. As well, the city of Evansville has been extremely generous in donating over $35 million to the project. And now, we’re looking to the community to finish it off with some private donations from corporate foundations and private donors.” How will this help with the shortage of doctors in Indiana? “Across the nation, southwestern Indiana is not unique in that there is a shortage of physicians. As healthcare has opened up to so many people across the nation, there is a shortage of well over 100,000 physicians across the country. Here in Indiana, we’re down at least 500 according to some recent research that we conducted.” I think the med school will be a great addition to both our state and community. If you have any questions for me or you’re thinking about buying or selling a home in the Evansville area, don’t hesitate to give me a call or send me an email. I’d be glad to help.

Uber in Evansville: All You Need to Know

Uber is coming to Evansville by the end of January, and I recently got to attend a meeting where I learned more about Uber. Here's what I found out.

We recently went to a meeting where we had the opportunity to learn more about Uber, now that they're coming to Evansville by the end of January. An interesting thing they said is that they consider Uber to be a technology company, and they do about $6 billion a year in sales. Driving for Uber is like having your own business in that you select the times you want to work and you're your own boss. In talking to some people, I'm learning that they like the idea of using Uber because it's convenient for them no to have to drive. It's been very popular in college towns, like Bloomington, and they see a big market available here in Evansville. Uber has a two-way rating system where passengers rate the driver, but the driver also rates the passengers.

Driving for Uber is like having your own business in that you select the times you want to work.

Another big plus is that the Uber cars are newer and nicer; Uber drivers must own a car that's a 2002 sedan or newer, and they have cleaning requirements. The cars must have seat belts, of course, and the drivers must be at least 21 years old. They can't carry firearms in the car, either. If you'd like to learn more about Uber, want to do a simulation drive, or you're interested in driving for Uber, you can visit their website here. As always, if you have any questions for me or you're thinking about making a move, you can always call me or email. I'm here to help.

Exiting News About What's Coming

Evansville has a new DoubleTree by Hilton hotel, and I’ve brought in their Director of Sales to tell you all about its quality service and accommodations.

It’s official - Evansville has a Hilton hotel. A lot of people have been wondering about this development, so today I’ve brought in Mary Beth Lewis, the Director of Sales for the newly-built DoubleTree by Hilton here in downtown Evansville, to chat with us about this exciting new property. The hotel will be opening in January, and the staff can’t wait to start welcoming people to their home away from home. According to Mary Beth, not only will you get a warm, delicious chocolate chip cookie upon your arrival, but you’ll also receive high-class, personalized service. This hotel has 241 rooms, suites, and function spaces. They’re able to host events that range in size from 10 people all the way up to 650. For any soon-to-be-wed couples out there wondering about the hotel’s post-nuptial accommodations, they have a sales manager who’s dedicated to their social market who’s already booked many wedding receptions and accompanying room blocks.

This hotel offers high-class, personalized service.

Of the 241 available rooms, all are non-smoking and feature a mixture of king and queen-queen bed arrangements between all five floors. Each floor plan is unique in its own way. The second floor, for example, has fewer rooms because it connects via sky-bridges to the Ford Center and the Convention Center. As for parking, the hotel has its own covered garage with more than 650 spaces. There is also parking on the adjoining streets, meters, and surface lots. I had the pleasure to meet Mary Beth because she and her family were relocating into the area and needed a house. I’m proud to say we were able to work together to find one, and the results have been wonderful for her and her family. By her own admission, Mary Beth was “scared to death” at first because she’d never even heard of Evansville before. When she came across our blog, however, she was able to create her own short list of living preferences and trust us to not only find their home, but also their church home.

If you have any questions about the new hotel, you can call 812-423-5002 or visit this website. As always, if you have any real estate questions, give us a call or send us an email. We would be happy to help you.
